Previous Action

A Summer Swimming event was hosted by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office from June 12-28, 2017 and the board approved a fee waiver of $1, 125.00 at the June 6, 2017 meeting.

Recommendation

Staff recommends Board authorization to waive $1,045.32 in facility rental fees for the Sheriff’s swimming event in September 2017 to be held at Ravenswood Pool as outlined in this agenda memorandum and authorization for the Chairman to sign documents as approved by the County Attorney.

Background

In 2016, seven St. Lucie County Deputies along with two Safe Kids Coalition employees obtained certifications as swim instructors through the American Red Cross. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office along with the Safe Kids Coalition hosted a Summer Swimming Event from June 12-28, 2017 at Lincoln Park Pool in Ft. Pierce. The Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Safe Kids Coalition of St. Lucie County to provide swimming lessons to local youth.  The program was a success and many youth were able to receive valuable swimming skills. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is once again requesting to host another swimming event in September.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is requesting to host a swimming event at Ravenswood Pool on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm-7:00pm from September 18-28, 2017.  The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that the County waive the facility rental fees of $1,045.32.  The Sheriff’s Office has agreed to reimburse the County $432.00 for staffing costs associated with the event, as required by Board policy.  This event will not interfere with the Ravenswood Pool operation.
