Recommendation

Staff recommends that the Board approve the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office submission of the electronic application for the 2017 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Local Solicitation offered by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Background

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office is requesting permission to submit an electronic application for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) 2017 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Local. This grant in the amount of $53,498 will be split 50/50 between the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office ($26,749) and the Ft. Pierce Police Department ($26,749). JAG funds may be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and criminal justice information systems.
